Six months on since earthquakes devastated millions of lives across Turkey and Syria, 2.6 million people are still displaced and living in tents and other informal housing. Together with our local partner the International Blue Crescent, we have supported over 9,400 people in need.
Find out how the earthquakes have affected people on the ground, and how the generosity of our supporters is making a life-changing difference to those in need.
Döne’s Story:
Our Head of Humanitarian Programmes, Kai Hopkins, also travelled to Turkey to visit our partner and see the impact of our new prefabricated homes. Each container home is equipped with electricity and running water, and will provide safe shelter and dignity to those affected by the earthquakes.
As Turkey and Syria now face the daunting task of rebuilding lives and infrastructure, we are now finalising the details on a long-term livelihoods and reconstruction plan in Turkey through IBC. This support will assist the rebuilding of permanent homes and help individuals earn an income and increase their independence, dignity, and agency.
