World Humanitarian Day 2021

World Humanitarian Day 2021

By Paul Anticoni

World Humanitarian Day is a reminder of the scale of humanitarian crises faced by so many across the world, as well as an opportunity to recognise the dedication and sacrifice that aid workers make to help relieve this suffering.

At World Jewish Relief we proudly celebrate the role played by thousands of staff and volunteers at every one of our 70 local partner organisations, in 20 countries, who are saving and changing lives every day. I want to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to these individuals, without whom none of our work would be possible.

Ongoing events in Afghanistan are a sobering reminder of the risks taken by aid workers in many regions, and the challenging environments that many endure in order to continue working with the world’s most at-risk communities. At World Jewish Relief we stand in solidarity with these individuals, many of whom now find themselves in great danger.

The theme of this year’s World Humanitarian Day is ‘Everyday Heroes’, and I want to introduce you to two of the ‘Everyday Heroes’ that make up part of the global World Jewish Relief family. Margarida works for ADPP, our local partner in Mozambique, and Jagat for CSRC, one of our local partners in Nepal. Hear from them below:
