Hurricane Matthew in Haiti

Hurricane Matthew in Haiti

The most powerful Caribbean hurricane in recent years has left thousands of people displaced in Haiti, with rescuers struggling to reach the worst-hit areas.

Hurricane Matthew passed through several countries (Colombia, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas) before hitting Haiti, where existing vulnerability levels have increased the impact. The death toll is expected to rise.

World Jewish Relief is assessing the situation, deciding exactly how we could contribute to the humanitarian response.

In 2010, World Jewish Relief responded to the earthquake in Haiti by providing immediate assistance including shelter, water and medical kits and supporting a primary healthcare mobile clinic programme.

Although we have not launched a full-scale appeal for funding at this stage, contributions are welcome. They will be directed either to the hurricane response in Haiti or to future emergencies that World Jewish Relief will respond to.
