Sponsor a homecare worker and ensure older Jewish people have someone to take care of them

Thousands of older Jewish people in Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus and Georgia suffer from mobility or health issues that leave them unable to fully care for themselves. Without homecare assistance they may not survive, or could find themselves confined to stark state institutions.

Our trained homecare workers provide practical and emotional support, ensuring older people can stay living in their own homes, with dignity, for as long as possible.  They shop for food, collect prescriptions, cook, clean and assist with personal hygiene. Their home visits provide much-needed companionship care and help ensure the people they look after stay mentally stimulated and feel brighter within themselves.

By sponsoring a homecare worker for as little as £3 a month, you can ensure vital care is given to an older person in desperate need.

Diana and Jenny

Jenny prepares Diana's meals

The last time 67 year old Diana tried to leave her flat, she slipped and fell on the stairs. Her multiple sclerosis had affected her balance and she simply couldn't stay upright. Unable to move, she lay in the stairwell for hours before a neighbour found her.

Diana has lived alone since her husband died from cancer and after the fall she had no-one to care for her.  She felt terrified to leave the flat and run the risk of falling again as she knew this could mean she would no longer be able to stay in her own home.

World Jewish Relief wants Diana to remain living independently in her own home for as long as possible,  so we sent Jenny, one of our homecare workers, to look after her.

Jenny now goes to Diana’s flat five days a week to help with tasks Diana can no longer do alone like dressing, bathing, cooking and cleaning.

But Jenny does more than just domestic chores, she provides Diana with companionship, with compassion and with a sense of being loved and cared for.

Sponsor a Homecare Worker

£3 a month can provide someone like Diana with 3 days of homecare each month
£5 a month means more older Jewish people can receive vital homecare support
£10 a month gives someone like Diana homecare every other day for a full month

Words cannot fully convey the benefits of the home care provided by World Jewish Relief. The smiles and tears of joy that our home care workers see are beyond the power of my description.
