World Jewish Relief is prioritising the needs of women and girls across all aspects of its work, with the charity vowing to “change the lives of 50,000 women over the next five years.” The announcement comes ahead of the organisation’s inaugural Women of World Jewish Relief event this week, which aims to encourage women of all ages to proactively engage in the charity’s work, give according to their means and encourage their friends and family to do the same.

On a warm Sunday morning in June a group of 42 cyclists gathered by Frank Meisler’s statue dedicated to the Kindertransport which stands outside Friedrichstrasse Station in central Berlin. They were about to set off on a 600 mile bike ride to commemorate 80 years since the Kindertransport and somehow I found myself amoung them.

World Jewish Relief has received a grant of over £1 million to support resettled refugees to find employment and integrate into British society. The grant, from the EU, has been launched as the UK marks the third anniversary since former Prime Minister David Cameron announced that 20,000 resettled Syrian refugees would be allowed in to the UK under the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS).

As many as 845,000 people have taken shelter in 3,700 relief camps as the Southern Indian state of Kerala has been hit by its worst flooding for more than a century. Shortages of medicine, fuel and fresh water have been reported and World Jewish Relief’s Humanitarian team is liaising closely with a range of local actors to monitor this situation very closely to determine whether we launch a humanitarian response.

World Jewish Relief has recently worked with several PhD researchers and Professor Bill Niven to create a new travelling exhibition about the work of our founders (the Central British Fund) and how World Jewish Relief today is using memory of the Holocaust, especially memory of the Kindertransports, when responding to new crises.
