The Chief Rabbi lit the first Chanukah candle at a moving commemorative ceremony at Liverpool Street Station to mark the 80th anniversary of the Kindertransport. It was on Sunday 2nd December 1938 that the first group of children from Germany arrived in Britain as part of the unique rescue mission.

We are calling for 10,000 people to add their name to our 'Kindertransport Record of Commemoration'. One for each child saved. We are honouring our founders who helped to instigate and fund this momentous rescue mission.

The Central British Fund was the precursor to World Jewish Relief and this weekend we are joining with many others to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Kindertransport, the seminal rescue mission for the Jewish community.

On 21 November 1938 debates were held in Parliament to discuss whether Britain would be prepared to accept more Jewish refugees from Germany, including unaccompanied children.

World Jewish Relief, formerly known as The Central British Fund for German Jewry (CBF), was instrumental in making the Kindertransport happen, alongside other organisations. Eighty years ago today a six man Jewish delegation*, including CBF founders Lionel De Rothschild and Chaim Weizmann, went to meet Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and plea for his help in rescuing Jewish children from the Nazis.

On the 29th September 2018, a devastating earthquake hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, triggering a tsunami with waves 6m high. 2,077 people were killed, 4,400 injured and 1,075 are still missing. Hundreds of thousands of people have been left homeless. World Jewish Relief launched an Indonesia Earthquake and Tsunami Appeal raising over £100,000 from the British Jewish community.

On 18th October 2018 World Jewish Relief hosted a landmark event at JW3 to celebrate the launch of our new initiative, Women of World Jewish Relief, engaging the support of our fantastic network of strong, kind and powerful Jewish women who can help us really make a difference.
