We are incredibly proud that Harry Heber has received the 'Edwards Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Volunteering' award for volunteering. Over the last 20 years, the former optician and Kindertransport refugee has made up more than 60,000 pairs of prescription glasses for vulnerable Jewish people around the world and given approximately 8,500 hours of voluntary service.

The Queen presents World Jewish Relief's Janice Lopatkin with her MBE. We are delighted that World Jewish Relief's UK Programme Director, Janice Lopatkin has been presented with her MBE by Her Majesty The Queen during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

On 26th September an earthquake of 6.5 magnitude struck Ambon, Maluku Province of Indonesia. A series of aftershocks and smaller quakes followed shaking the surrounding areas and causing significant injury and damage.

Our Home Repairs Programme is truly life-changing. A new bathroom, plastered walls and secure windows might sound like small jobs but for the older Jewish people we help, they provide hope where there had been none.

Flash floods have hit Haiti leaving at least 3 dead and causing extensive damage to housing, livelihoods, and infrastructure. 350 families have been confirmed as affected. Thanks to funding from The START Network, we are launching a rapid response to get essential supplies to people in need.

We are incredibly proud of one of our young supporters, Josh Shrubsole, who has set up a jam shop to raise funds for World Jewish Relief. Ten year old Josh built a website, wrote the words, and took and edited the pictures for his online jam shop which sells three types of jam – all lovingly homemade by his mum!

Two of the refugees we have supported into employment have been featured in BBC News stories marking four years since the launch of a government scheme to help Syrian refugees come to the UK.

More than 70 people have died and nearly 100,000 are displaced following severe monsoon rains in Myanmar. Two months of torrential rain has led to river banks overflowing, multiple landslides and extensive flooding. People have been forced to flee from their homes and food reserves and crops have been destroyed. Last week's landslide in Paung Township, killed more than 70 people.

Young World Jewish Relief organises regular trips to areas in eastern Europe to see some of our life-changing work. It's an opportunity to learn more about these countries that aren't top of everyone's holiday list, meet some of the incredible people we support, and see the impact of our work. Ben Levitt travelled to Lviv earlier this year and wrote about his experience.
