Mozambique hit by second tropical storm – Cyclone Kenneth

Just weeks after being hit by the devastating Cyclone Idai, Mozambique has been struck by a second cyclone which has flattened villages and destroyed thousands more homes.

Cyclone Kenneth struck the northern province of Cabo Delgado late last week with winds of 220km/h (140m/h) and is expected to bring twice as much rainfall as Cyclone Idai which hit central Mozambique in mid-March. The number of people killed by Cyclone Kenneth has risen to 38 and there are fears of flooding and mudslides as torrential rain continues.

World Jewish Relief is already working with a local partner in Mozambique to provide humanitarian aid. To date 19,800 people have received assistance from us including emergency shelter kits, dignity kits for women and girls, food packs and kitchen packages for families. Our partner is now also responding to the most recent devastation caused by Cyclone Kenneth.

We are continuing to accept donations to provide emergency relief to those affected by the cyclones in Mozambique. You can donate to support World Jewish Relief’s emergency work online or by calling 020 8736 1250. All your support is greatly appreciated in helping people whose lives have been torn apart by these storms.
