We have launched an emergency response to floods in Haiti

Flash floods have hit Haiti leaving at least 3 dead and causing extensive damage to housing, livelihoods, and infrastructure. 350 families have been confirmed as affected.

Thanks to funding from The START Network, we are launching a rapid response to get essential supplies to people in need.

We will be working with our two Haitian partners KORAL and Haiti Survie, who we worked with following Hurricane Matthew in 2016.  Both agencies are based close to the affected areas and have pre-existing relationships and connections with local authorities and the affected communities. They are well positioned to respond quickly while we provide technical support and coordination.

Our response will consist of:

  • Multi-purpose cash transfers for 175 affected families to allow them to purchase food for the month
  • WASH kits and water purification tablets for 200 families to reduce risk of disease outbreak
  • Agricultural inputs (seeds and tools) to assist 200 families to recover lost farming assets and be able to restart farming activities in the next season.

The START Fund provides rapid financing for off-the-radar emergencies and to fill critical gaps in humanitarian financing. The multi-donor pooled fund, supported by the British, Irish, Dutch, and Belgium governments and the European Commission, is managed by Humanitarian NGOs delivering the fastest-collectively-owned, early response mechanism in the world. World Jewish Relief have been members since 2016.

We are not launching a wider appeal at this stage. You can support our emergency work by donating a one-off sum or signing up for a monthly direct debit to our Disaster Fund.
