More than 40 people attended World Jewish Relief’s South London Archives Roadshow held at Mosaic Jewish Primary School on Sunday.

The event was the second in World Jewish Relief’s Roadshow series which is travelling the UK to connect people with their family histories.

The audience heard from historian Mike Levy about the events leading up to the outbreak of the Second World War and efforts to bring Jewish refugees to Britain.

World Jewish Relief, the UK Jewish community’s international development agency, rescued 65,000 people from Nazi Germany in the 1930s and 40s, including nearly 10,000 children on the Kindertransport and the 732 ‘Boys’ brought to Britain from concentration camps after the war. World Jewish Relief’s archives contain family records from the period and have been recently digitised. The charity now wants to reunite people with their family history.

Wandsworth resident Suzy Clode spoke about the powerful impact receiving her mother’s files had on her, as they revealed information her mother had never shared with her children.

World Jewish Relief’s Head of External Affairs, Richard Verber, said: “It was wonderful partnering with Mosaic Jewish Primary School and spending time with supporters in Roehampton. We feel we have a moral duty to connect people with their family records. There is no charge for this service and we urge people to spread the word. If you or your family came to the UK in the 1930s and 40s there is a high chance they were helped by World Jewish Relief and we may have your family papers. Please do get in touch.”

Future Roadshow events are planned in Bushey and Bournemouth.
