Whilst shoppers battle to bag Black Friday bargains, World Jewish Relief is launching an antidote to the annual spending extravaganza in the form of its #LackFriday campaign, making sure no-one lacks warmth this winter.
Designed to emulate Black Friday-style advertising and promotions, the #LackFriday campaign will feature photos of the people we support and boast a special offer deal of just £5 to help provide warm clothes, warm meals, warm homes or warm hearts through our befriending and homecare support services.
Funds from the campaign will support vulnerable people in the Former Soviet Union who often live in crippling poverty and lack the means to heat their homes, prepare hot nutritious meals or keep themselves warm. As temperatures plummet to minus 15 degrees their health can be put at serious risk.
This week’s Torah portion is Vayera which demonstrates the Jewish trait of gemilut chasadim – acts of kindness – as 99-year-old Abraham rushes out of his tent in the heat of the day to welcome strangers and offer them food and drink. Through #LackFriday, World Jewish Relief is offering its supporters the chance to perform another act of kindness by supporting people in need around the world.
