UK Refugee Programme Finance Officer (STEP)

Location: Hybrid working between our office NW2 and working from home

Contract: Fixed term contract to July 2025


Following a successful Emergency campaign to support Syrian Refugees in 2015 World Jewish Relief created the Specialist Training and Employment Programme (STEP) for refugees in 2016 and today we are the largest provider of specialist employment support to refugees in the UK.

World Jewish Relief are running a new programme to provide English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and employment support to assist up to 10,000 Ukrainians in entering or gaining higher-paid employment and are looking to recruit one Programme Officer (with a focus on Finance) to join the team. This will be a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless delivery of the UK Refugee Programmes.

You will be responsible for:

  • Performing general financial tasks for the English Language and Employment Support Programme including the tracking of income and expenditure for all partners.
  • Completing financial reporting each quarter and ensure all checks are correct before submitting.

a. Assist partners with any support they may need to complete quarterly finance reporting and ensure all expenditure is within agreed standards.

  • Tracking partner expenditure each quarter

a. Monitoring partners’ expenditure regularly and report variances against budget to Finance Manager and partners.

b. Where partners are underspending work with them to understand reasons and make changes to services where required.

c. Working with partners to amend their budget as required seeking appropriate approvals.

  • Providing regular updates on funding and budgets to Head of UK Programmes and Director of Finance & Resources.
  • Completing budget and regular forecasting with support of Finance manager.
  • Working with the Director of Finance & Resources to ensure partners meet all due diligence requirements.
  • Checking all invoices and expenses before sending them to finance for approval by Programme Director.

You should have:

  • Experience working as part of a team in a similar role.
  • Proven bookkeeping, statutory reporting, data management and financial accounting skills.
  • Experience of data collation and analysis.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of refugee and/or livelihoods programming and finance processes
