Young World Jewish Relief: Visit Georgia
*Update June 2020: This trip has now been postponed to May 2021. Please register your interest and we will update you when more information becomes available.*
Join Young World Jewish Relief for an unforgettable trip to see our work in Georgia. Explore beautiful landscapes and experience Jewish history and culture.
In five fantastic days you will explore the cities of Kutaisi and Tbilisi, discover the tiny town of Oni, and witness first-hand the transformative work that World Jewish Relief does.
You will visit World Jewish Relief beneficiaries including older people who receive vital homecare and much needed home repair. You will meet the younger generation of Georgian Jews who are benefitting from our employment programmes, enabling them to become self sufficient and look after themselves and their families. And you will see our groundbreaking project helping people with disabilities live more independently.
Georgia's Jewish community dates back to the sixth century BCE and although the current community is small we can guarantee a warm welcome as we visit our partners at the local Jewish community centres.
We'll walk through the Jewish quarter in the historical town of Kutaisi once home to Georgia’s largest Jewish population and after strolling through the eclectic city of Tbilisi, sit down to delicious plate of Khachapuri (famous cheesy bread boat).
We will travel high up into the Caucasus Mountains to discover the tiny town of Oni. Once home to the third largest population of Jews in Georgia, now only a handful remain. We will visit the beautiful synagogue built by Greek Jews from Thessaloniki and meet the small population that we continue to support there.
It promises to be a truly insightful trip and we look forward to welcoming you to Georgia!
Cost: £300 (inclusive of flights, accommodation and food).
