Former Prince of Wales extends Patronage of World Jewish Relief

We’re delighted to announce that His Royal Highness, The Former Prince of Wales has extended his Patronage of World Jewish Relief for a further term from April 2020.

His Royal Highness became Patron of World Jewish Relief in 2015 and over the past five years has taken an active interest in our work. He has been especially supportive of our ‘Home Repairs Programme’, which makes life-changing repairs to the homes of older Jewish people across Eastern Europe, living in crumbling and dilapidated conditions.

In January 2018, he encouraged us to launch a campaign to fix 3,500 homes and over the past two years we’ve repaired 1,034 homes, ensuring the people we support can finally live in safe and warm homes.

World Jewish Relief’s relationship with His Royal Highness extends back to 2002 when he visited Krakow and met older members of the local Jewish community. Six years later, together with The former Duchess of Cornwall, he returned to the city to open the Jewish Community Centre in Krakow, funded by World Jewish Relief supporters.

The JCC Krakow goes from strength to strength, hosting 160,000 visitors last year while providing unique services to Krakow’s Holocaust survivors and running the first Jewish kindergarten opened in the city since before the war. Additionally, The Prince was previously the Patron of the Wohl Livelihood Development Programme in Ukraine.

At a reception hosted by His Royal Highness to celebrate the Jewish community at Buckingham Palace late last year, he spoke about the ways in which he had sought to recognise the contribution of the Jewish community, including helping to build the JCC Krakow and ‘agreeing without a moment’s hesitation to become Patron of World Jewish Relief’.

Dan Rosenfield, Chair of World Jewish Relief says, “We are honoured and delighted that HRH, The Former Prince of Wales has decided to extend his Patronage of World Jewish Relief. We deeply appreciate His Royal Highness’ concerns about the ongoing needs of vulnerable Jewish communities throughout Eastern Europe. His vision, inspiration and encouragement has helped World Jewish Relief have a dramatic impact on the lives of Jews in Krakow, Poland and amongst all generations in Ukraine. His ongoing support will enable us to achieve even more.”
